Spirituality of Consecrated Life: A Reflection
Sr. Philomena Mathew

Sr. Philomena Mathew, the Superior General presented a paper on the spirituality of consecrated life to the religious women of the Archdiocese of Guwahati, gathered for the Consecrated Day celebration on 2 February 2019 at Christ the Bearer of Good News Cathedral, Dispur. Describing the very purpose of consecrated life she said, “Consecrated life has no other vocation and mission than “being salt of the earth” and “light of the world.”  Drawing inspiration from the Bible, which gives instances of the amazing works of the Spirit, she explained the origins of the consecrated life by considering a few biblical icons. The second part of her paper illustrated consecrated life as a life of communion with God and others.

Around 350 women religious from various centres of the Archdiocese participated in the programme, which was organised for the first time in the Archdiocese. The organizing team from Hatigaon, headed by Sr. Philomena Mathew, the Superior General played an active role in making the day meaningful and memorable for all. The inaugural session that began with prayer moments led by Sr. Christine Mynsong, the Assistant General and team set the tone for the entire day.
