MSMHC in Gambela, Ethiopia

The MSMHC is ever stirred in casting the magic spell of its charism and spirit, ready to set sail to the direction of a favourable wind for a change, to make Christ better known. A huge step was added to the journey of the congregation as the Missionary Sisters made a historical entrance once again to Ethiopia on 8th September 2023 to begin the 3rd mission centre in Gambela. The Gambela is a regional state in western Ethiopia, bordering South Sudan. The Region is situated between the Baro and Akobo Rivers, with its western part including the Baro River.
 “One more Tabernacle is added to the world. Let us rejoice and be glad” said, Rev. Fr. Haile Mariam the Provincial Superior of the Salesians of Don Bosco, on the occasion of the blessing and opening of the new mission centre.
Sr. Mary's Convent was officially inaugurated and blessed on 8th of September 2023 on the feast of Nativity of our Blessed Mother. Rev. Sr. Rose Paite the General Councillor for Social Apostolate together with Rev. Fr. Haile Mariam the Provincial Superior of the Salesians of Don Bosco inaugurated the Convent. Rt. Rev. Roberto Bergamashi blessed the house and presided over the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. MSMHC Sisters from Sudan, Meki and Arsinegelle were present for the function. All the priests and religious of the Vicariate also were present for the inaugural function and to welcome the MSMHC Sisters to the Vicariate of Gambela. 
Sr. Saroj Kindo and Sr. Prema Tirkey are appointed as the pioneering members of the new mission. The sisters will be engaged in the pastoral activities, family visits, teaching in Don Bosco School and part time secretary to the bishop. The Sisters also will take care of the refugee camps, teaching catechism and other activities of the Vicariate.
