MSMHC Kolping House, South Africa inaugurated

Firmly anchored by the mandate of Christ to “Go proclaim the Good News” (Mt 28:19), the MSMHC set its gaze upon a new missionary enterprise in the African mission land and sent out “labourers into his harvest” (Lk 10:2-3). The choice of an avenue in its climb towards the realization of the missionary charism etched out a veritable golden opportunity for the MSMHC to serve the people of Oudtshoorn in South Africa.
As an emerging Congregation in South Africa stuffed with sterling missionaries ready to conquer the world with Christ’s love, the MSMHC missed no chance of widening its horizon to multiply its presence for the mission. Hence a significant moment of growth was witnessed as the MSMHC expanded the South African mission to put hands together with the Kolping Mission in Oudtshroom on 8 October 2022. Rev. Sr. Philomena Mathew, the Superior General on her visitation to South Africa, inaugurated the new mission. The Inauguration and Blessing of St Mary's Convent Dysseldorp Oudrshoorn Diocese Western Cape started with the Mass celebrated by Rt Rev Bishop Noel Ruscastle Bishop of Oudrshoorn Diocese. The Bishop Noel Ruscastle and Superior General Sr Philomena Mathew cut the ribbon and inaugurated St Mary's Convent and the Bishop blessed the house and the whole Kolping House, the Skill Centre for bakery welding and fabrication place. It was indeed a beautiful welcome reception for the MSMHC to the Kolping House. Bishop Noel in his message urged the sisters to be present with the people in all the apostolates and particularly in the family visit. He told the sisters that "There are 1000 Catholic families in this village and to sustain their faith formation." He encouraged the sisters to plant more trees and plants and to create an ambience of Laudato Si in this big place.
Oudtshoorn, the “ostrich capital of the world” is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa, located between the Swartberg mountains to the north and the Outeniqua Mountains to the south. Kolping Mission in Oudrshoorn Diocese is founded in 1989 by the German Pallottine Missionary is 1138.5 Km from Johannesburg.  Sr Elsa, the pioneer of the new Mission at Kolping House Oudrshoorn accompanied by Sr Sabrina and Sr Bina reached in Oudtshoorn on 26th September 2022. Ms Judith the Director of Kolping South Africa welcomed them warmly together with Kolping family. The MSMHC mission here is to strengthen the families through pastoral care, family visit etc. The Sisters will be engaged also to run the Kolping Centre in skills developmental programmes and other activities.
